Living Wyverns

Living Wyverns

Introduction

Wyverns are one of the 4 raptor mobs, and are known for their unique environmental effects and highly damaging attacks. They offer decent slayer XP, and are a consistent source of GP due to their wyvern bone drops.

⬥ The Dragon slayer perk and sigil dragonslayerperk dragonslayer, along with any other dragon-slaying related items such as jasdragonbanearrow, do NOT work on wyverns.

Stats

combat XP per kill : 1859 + 613.4 constitution

slayer XP per kill : 1878.8

⬥ Optimal kills per hour: ~760 (~530 AFK)

⬥ Optimal slayer XP per hour : ~1.4M (~995K AFK)

Desirable Drops

⬥ Wyverns have a rich drop table, with each kill being worth coins 68,304. They are the best source of Wyvern bones, an ingredient for super prayer potions.

⬥ For the slayer log, Wyverns are also killed for their unique drop, the Wyvern Crossbow wyverncrossbow, a T85 crossbow dropped at a rate of 1/2000 on-task and 1/10,000 off-task.

Location and How to Get There

Living Wyverns are found in 2 locations:

  1. The Asgarnian Ice Dungeon, accessed via a rope in the south of the Skeletal Wyvern room.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎a. The easiest way to get there would be via dungeoneering cape teleport dgcape to the Frost dragon dungeon (0,8)

  1. Northwest of Ghorrock, accessed via the Ghorrock teleport (ancient spellbook)

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎a. This is the best location as it benefits from the infernalpuzzlebox and jasboost

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎b. Wyverns are also attackable from areas without the chill mechanic, making it viable to be stationary and AFK in this location.

Mechanics

Wyrm breath
⬥ Wyverns have a breath attack different from that of dragons, and requires wyrmfire protection.     • Use wyrmfire potions or elder overload salves to block all damage from this attack.
Cavern chill
⬥ Wyverns reside in a habitat which slowly increases the player's cold percentage.     • The higher the chill percentage, the lower the poison damage taken by the player. No poison damage will be taken by players with ~70% chill.     • At ≥25% chill, wyvern attack damage increases to 2500 from around 1300.     • At ≥90% chill, players will be periodically stunned at 8-10s per stun, Never let your chill reach this stage.     • Fires throughout the wyvern habitats and be lit, standing within 2 tiles of them periodically lowers the player's chill percentage.     • This mechanic is avoided completely by standing outside of area affected by cavern chill in the wilderness.
Wyrm poison
⬥ Wyverns can inflict poison damage based on the percentage of Cavern chill every 4-5 ticks.     • Antipoison++ halves the damage, but every tick of poison decreases potion duration.     • This mechanic is avoided completely by standing outside of area affected by cavern chill in the wilderness.
Varied attacking
⬥ Wyverns can attack with all 3 styles, alongside their breath attack.     • They will attack with primarily melee if the player stands in melee range.     • Hence, either stand in melee distance and use deflectmelee or camp soulsplit and out heal their damage through high DPS.

Useful Items

Items
Elder overload salve elderovlsalve     • By far the best potion to use here due to its wyrmfire protection. ⬥ Upgraded bonecrusher bonecrusher     • Extremely useful for gathering wyvern bones, in combination with Death Note deathnote
Passive unlocks
Stone of Jas buff jasboost     • Provides a 5% damage increase against living wyverns in the wilderness. ⬥ Infernal Puzzle box infernalpuzzlebox     • Provides a 9% damage increase and 14% damage reduction in the wilderness at max rank. ⬥ Death Note deathnote     • An extremely helpful relic to help gather valuable wyvern bones.

Method: Active/AFK Magic

Magic is the best style at wyverns by far, due to their weakness to the inquisitorstaff and animatedead damage reduction.

⬥ Wyverns are stunnable and bindable, so iceblitz + wrack can be a powerful combo if using 4TAA. Blood spells help with healing, alongside vampaura if required.

Preset

Preset Suggestion & Breakdown

Active Strategy

⬥ If doing them actively with best-in-slot gear, stand close to the most north-western fire in the wilderness spot (refer to example vod), and use target cycle to target wyverns within range. Use dommine whenever gsunshine is used along with adrenrenewal if available.

⬥ Use gchain combos opportunistically on any wyverns that wander close to each other.

⬥ When eating solid food, such as sharks dropped by wyverns, try to eat them in the tick between the end of a kill and the start of the next kill when you have no target, as this does not reduce adrenaline.

⬥ If doing wyverns with lesser gear, an oldakcoil may be used to aggro a limited amount (2-3) of wyverns which makes it more manageable to soulsplit, as shown below:

AFK Strategy

⬥ If AFKing, stand south of the area out of range of the cavern chill effect.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎• If positioned correctly, the chill status icon should not be seen on the debuff bar.

⬥ Set your legendary pet to scavenge for noted items along with runes and talismans.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎• Besides noted items and salvage, soul runes soulrune are also valuable common loot.

⬥ One possibility for positioning is as follows (may not be optimal):

Revo bar

This bar should be used only for AFKing.

Note: Take out tuskas if AFKing off-task.
